Event Report: Biodiversity in Action
Global Perspectives recently collaborated with the BCCJ - The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (SCCIJ) for a pivotal event: Biodiversity in Action.
This session gathered leaders at the forefront of corporate biodiversity initiatives, shifting the focus from the 'why' to the tangible 'how' of integrating biodiversity into business operations and recognizing the competitive advantages it provides.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our distinguished speakers for their invaluable contributions:

Dr Samuel Sinclair (Biodiversify) elucidated how foundational questions such as "why should we care?" and "what do our stakeholders care about?" can initiate progress, particularly within complex supply chains.
Maggie O'Neal (Barclays Investment Bank) shared critical insights into investor expectations regarding corporate biodiversity actions and the role of technology and AI in enhancing data collection and impact measurement.
Harumichi Seta (Suntory Holdings) provided concrete examples of material biodiversity aspects for Suntory and their collaborative approaches with local partners, government, and other corporations to build resilience in areas like water and soil health.
Takafumi Osawa (Japan Ministry of the Environment)
Key Insights and Takeaways
The discussions highlighted that biodiversity loss impacts all sectors, with significant economic and social consequences. Key insights from the event included:
Biodiversity extends beyond Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)—it serves as a fundamental driver of organizational resilience, innovation, and long-term value.
Actionable frameworks are available to effectively integrate nature-positive strategies into core business operations.
Cross-sector collaboration is essential for accelerating the development and implementation of scalable solutions.
The overwhelming consensus reinforced that businesses bear both the responsibility and the strategic opportunity to lead in addressing biodiversity challenges.
While the issue of biodiversity is complex, it should not be an impediment to action. There is a clear need for bolder decision-making, even with incomplete data, and proactive engagement with communities and networks to share knowledge and foster collective solutions.
